After years of dating often unsuitable men, most women finally meet Mr Right, get engaged and then decide the time is right to get married.
Tradition dictates that the "soon to be blushing bride" must first have a get-together with her exclusively female guests to have a night to remember; before settling down with her new groom.
This get-together can be hosted in the soon to be bride’s home, or alternatively in her local pub; to then go on to a nightclub to dance the night away. This is a time when her guests may also meet and go on to date a man of their dreams too.
The Hen Party often comprises of a group of women of all ages, from the host’s friends, sisters, mothers, aunts and even grandmothers. This does not, however, mean that they will be restricted to sitting around sipping sherry and making polite conversation.
The Hen party is usually a much more raucous affair, involving fancy dress and with the host wearing the obligatory "L" plate, whilst staggering in and out of a large number of pubs; before dancing the night away in the best hotspot.
This spectacle is guaranteed to attract a wealth of male attention, a bonus for the soon to be brides single guests, both young and young at heart.
