In the 1970's a big thing was made of the possibilities of using a fax machine to arrange dates but the promise of this did not really materialise and it was most notable for stories in the newspapers of celebrities dumping each other by fax, not the ideal start for a method which seemed to hold so much promise.
With the advent of dating websites in the early part of this century came the realisation that mobile phones could be incorporated into the process, but this was very restricted due to the basic capabilities of these phones, but it was still a massive development in the world of dating.
Smartphones have now taken this to a whole new level and they are able to display clear photographs as well as a wealth of other features which makes it possible to find a partner and make a date whilst on the move.
